What did you love to do as a child?
What were your hopes and dreams?
When I was very little, I loved to sing and dance. I would go outside in nature and make up songs and whirl and twirl. I felt so much love and joy in my heart that I wanted to share and express it. The best way I found was to make up my own songs and sing them to mother nature.
I also loved acting. I loved making people smile and laugh and bringing joy into their hearts. Our dear neighbor Liz directed plays with all the neighborhood children and I would watch rehearsals everyday. I was young so I had small parts but by the age of 10 I could perform entire plays including all the lines and songs- Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Oliver and The Sound of Music.
As I grew up, it became more challenging for me to express myself in this way. I began to feel more self-conscious about my body when dancing and how people were looking at it, and wondering if I was singing in tune. But I would still non-the-less bust out and start clogging in the middle of the street if there was live music, or dance freely to the African drummers at the show.
But then, there was a time in my life for several years when I did not sing or dance. You know how the story goes you expressed yourself and were vulnerable- something happened, someone said something and you shut down. You took in that other person’s projection and then you held back, you became afraid of expressing yourself.
“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions. . . . –
When did you stop dancing?
When did you stop singing?
When did you stop being enchanted by stories?
When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?” -Gabriel Roth
The answer to these questions will lead to some self-discovery of where there may be soul loss. Where there may be trauma or a place for finding the key to the solution.
It is so important to our soul to express ourselves, and to live our life purpose.
If you have been feeling depressed or not expressing yourself creatively I invite you to ask these questions to yourself. If you want guidance on how to express yourself- look to your childhood. What did you enjoy doing as a child? How did you express yourself when you were younger? Can you bring some of that back into your life today?
I created a guided breath work meditation to help people connect with the innocence of their youth. If you would like to bring some of the love, joy and peace that you experienced as a little child back into your life-
Please download my meditation and let me know how it goes for you. I would love to help you reconnect with your life’s mission. You deserve to be happy, loved, appreciated and to express yourself creatively.
