Wilderness Camping with the Kids:

My kids sometimes complain about the mom they ended up with.
Sometimes all they want to do is eat candy and play video games.

It is in these moments that I explain to them that they chose me and their father when they were in the spirit realm and decided to enter my body to be born.

As a mother- I will be the first to admit I have my flaws.
I’m not very good at doing the laundry- I cannot manage to keep their clothes free from stains.
I don’t drive them around to a bunch of after school activities every day.
I have never had a nap time for them and
I cannot make fancy looking cakes for birthdays.

But I did home birth them,
I did raise them for the first 5-8 years on 90% of the food that was grown by their mother and father,
I did teach my son how to tan his first hide,
I did teach all my kids how to read and home schooled them for the first 6 years of their lives.
I did teach them how to milk cows, plant seeds, butcher chickens, harvest and process their food, and give thanks to mother earth.
I do encourage them to meditate, practice yoga, qi gong and breathwork with me.
I do read every night for story time and
I do cook family dinners every night.
I do take them on walks in nature

This summer I took the kids into the wilderness in Colorado. While backpacking there I taught them about what it means to “leave no trace” in the wilderness, how to camp in bear country and how to survive in the wilderness. These are the skills that I want my children to learn. These are the values that I believe in.

As parents, we get to choose what we teach our children.
What are the valuable teachings that you offer your children?
